Here you can find useful web resources, including open source software & links to great web sites. As this is a web-based organisation, there are always things that I come across on the web which I believe are worth sharing. I also want to highlight how easy it is to get yourself setup on the web, and therefore have included links to the free software that I use to create our sites.
Utilities
Here are some great online utilities for various uses, from website tools to email providers, and general applications for your desktop. Any links to programs listed are open-source and therefore free for you to download.
Notepad++ is an integrated development environment, meaning you can use it to write web code, whether it be XHTML, javascript or even C++. This open source software does just as much as some of the pricey comparisons on the market, and is really nice to use.
FileZilla is an FTP client that allows you to connect to your FTP address and upload/dowload to your web space. We use this bit of kit at SmallFrog as it is free to use and one of the best FTP clients out there.
Chrome is a new web browser created by Google and if you havn't tried it already then I would seriously recommend giving it a shot. Chrome's popularity is huge, owed to it's great appearance and functionality.
Open Office is an excellent tool for spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and other similar programs to MS Office, however this version is completely free. Open Office is compatible with documents formatted on most versions MS Office.
AVG is a bit of anti-virus software that actually considers the fact that you may be using the computer when it wants to start downloading more updates. The free version is only basic, but it provides all the cover you need for general web-surfing and email.
GIMP is a great utility similar to that of photoshop, and can be used for either the simple tasks like touching up old photos, or more involved graphic design. GIMP is compatible with a massive range of formats too.
